The Lullaby of Artillery Echo
Again this poem is dedicated to Ukrainian people. The civilians who perished every night under constant artillery shelling by the enemy. The poem is an inspired version of the song “ Đại Bác Ru Đêm” by Trịnh Công Sơn and presented by Khánh Ly .
Every night the echo of artillery explosions booming over the cities
They shattered the silence of the night,
And the old street cleaner rested his broom to listen.
The mothers woke up, trembling with fear.
Their children terrified, screaming with tears
The deadly fire blinded their eyes and brightened the dark night.
The alarm siren continued and continued
while the houses keep burning, the human bodies buried underneath heap of gravel.
The sound of artillery flying became routine after little while
Just like like a lullaby of death coming,
All hope and future ceased to exist
The children grow up, forgetting they are living.
They only know the curse of claymore mines and grenades scattered everywhere on the fields.
This hellish life is too much to bear
The lullaby for the souls who departed this unfathomed despair.
